How to Write a Facebook Marketplace Title

TL;DR

Your title is a search line, not a caption. Lead with brand, model, and item type in the words buyers actually type, then add one detail that earns the tap.

The title is the first thing a buyer reads and the main thing Marketplace search reads too. If it does not contain the words people type, your item never shows up, no matter how good the photos are. I treat the title as the highest-leverage 60 seconds on any listing.

Put these in, in this order

  1. 1Brand: the name buyers search first, like Dyson, IKEA, or Nike.
  2. 2Model or line: the exact model name or number when the item has one.
  3. 3Item type: the plain word for what it is, like stroller, sofa, or drill.
  4. 4One key detail: size, color, or condition that a buyer filters on.
  5. 5A searchable extra: a common alternate term people also type.

So instead of "Great little chair, must go," write "West Elm Axel Swivel Chair - Gray Velvet - Like New." The second version matches how buyers search and tells them the brand, the exact piece, the color, and the condition before they even open it.

Common title mistakes

Skip ALL CAPS, rows of emojis, and vague hooks like "amazing deal." They do not help search and they read as spammy. Do not bury the brand at the end where a truncated preview cuts it off. Front-load the words that matter and let the rest fall off if it has to.

Test and adjust. If an item gets views but no messages, the title may be attracting the wrong search. If it gets no views at all, the search words are probably missing. Change one thing, watch for a few days, and keep what pulls.

Common questions

  • How long should a Marketplace title be?

Long enough to fit brand, model, item type, and one key detail, but front-load the important words. Previews can cut off the end, so never leave the brand or item type for last where it might get truncated.

  • Should I include the price in the title?

No. Marketplace has a dedicated price field, so keep the title focused on brand, model, item type, and a searchable detail. Repeating the price in the title just wastes space that search words could use.

  • Do keywords in the title actually help me get found?

Yes. Marketplace search reads your title heavily, so the plain words buyers type need to be in there. Missing the common term for your item is the fastest way to stay invisible in search.

  • Can I use emojis in the title?

Skip them. Emojis do not help search and can read as spammy to buyers. Spend the characters on the brand, model, and a real detail that helps someone decide to tap.

  • What if my item has no brand name?

Lead with the item type and its most searchable details instead, like "Solid Wood Dining Table - Seats 6 - Farmhouse Style." Buyers still search by type, size, material, and style even when there is no brand.

  • How do I know if my title is working?

Watch views versus messages over a few days. Views but no messages often means the title pulls the wrong search or oversells. No views usually means the searchable words are missing. Change one thing and test again.
