The Title Formula
Facebook Marketplace ranks listings partly by keyword match. Write titles that include: material or brand, item name, key descriptor, and a useful detail (size, color, or condition). Keep it under 100 characters so it does not get cut off on mobile. Examples: 'Solid oak dresser 6-drawer 48in - no scratches', 'DeWalt 20V drill set with 2 batteries and case', 'Mid-century walnut coffee table - excellent condition'.
What to Put in the Description
A good description answers the questions buyers will ask before they can message you. This speeds up sales and reduces the back-and-forth that wastes time for both sides.
- Exact dimensions (height x width x depth) for furniture and large items
- Brand and model number for electronics and tools
- Condition details - what is perfect, what is worn
- Why you are selling (not required but builds trust)
- Pickup city and whether you can hold it
- Any accessories or extras included
- Firm or OBO on the price
Photos That Close Deals
Upload 6-10 photos per listing. The cover photo should show the whole item clean in natural light. Then add close-ups of key features, any flaws, model numbers, and condition details. Buyers who can see everything they need in photos message with 'when can I come get it' rather than 'can you send more photos'.
Photo checklist by item type
| Item type | Must-have shots |
|---|---|
| Furniture | Front, back, sides, inside drawers/doors, any flaws, hardware |
| Electronics | Front, back, screen on, ports, model sticker, any damage |
| Tools | Full view, close-up of brand plate, working shot if possible |
| Clothing (less ideal) | Flat lay, tag showing size and brand, any wear or stain |
Pricing and the Call to Action
End your description with availability and what you want the buyer to do: 'Available for pickup in [neighborhood]. Message me to schedule a time.' This is a clear next step. If you accept offers, say 'OBO' in the title and add 'Serious offers only' to the description to filter low-ballers.

Frequently asked questions
How many photos should I include in a Facebook Marketplace listing?
6 to 10 is the sweet spot for most items. Fewer than 4 looks incomplete and raises buyer doubt. More than 15 shows diminishing returns. Lead with your best full-item shot.
Does the time of day I post affect visibility?
Yes. Listings posted between 7-9pm local time on weekdays and midday on weekends tend to get more initial views because that is when most buyers are browsing. Avoid early morning posts that will be buried by the time buyers check their feeds.
How do I deal with buyers asking for a lower price in the first message?
If you priced correctly, hold your price unless they offer a specific amount. A generic 'will you take less?' does not deserve a discount. Ask them to name their number and go from there.
Should I renew or relist stale listings?
Renew (mark as available) first - it bumps the listing in search results. If after 2 weeks it still has not sold, relist with new photos and a slightly different title. Sometimes a fresh look is all it takes.
